Islamic sciences arrived in this country from the time of Mahmud Ghaznavi. Maulana Safi-ud-Din Gazroni came in 1908. He established an Islamic seminary here, where two-and-a-half thousand students were studying simultaneously. Sultan Shahabuddin Ghauri, the first coach of this institution, was also his name. Each was made their capital by the Ghauri rulers. Uch fell with the Ghor Empire’s fall. Most scholars fled the Mongol invasions to Uchh, where they settled.
The city was not diminished in importance despite being sacked by the Mongols several times. The city was redeemed by the Mughal Empire under Humayun’s reign. The importance of Uch started to decline after Aurangzeb Alamgir’s death. Ranjit Singh attempted to capture the city but was unsuccessful. The Abbasi of Bahawalpur however, incorporated the city into their state.
Uch Sharif is the home of the saints. These are the tombs and remains of Sadat Bukhari’s Syed Jalaluddin Bukhari, his son Syed Ahmad Kabir Bukhari, Makhdoom Rajan Jahan Gasht, Makhdoom Jahanian Jahan Gasht and Makhdoom Jahanian Jahan Gasht of Makhdoom Jahanian Jahan Gasht.
